How to Get Involved

BW Flame How to Get Involved

An Historic Event Celebrating the Triumph of the Human Spirit

The year 2010 marks the 2,500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon, one of the most significant military battles in history. The battle which took place in 490 BC is also believed to be to have provided the spirit from which the modern marathon run was born.

Marathon 2010 has been created to encourage a world-wide celebration of this glorious Greek victory. It presents marathons around the world a unique opportunity to come together to recognize what has turned into a global phenomenon … the marathon run. Marathoning connects every runner through the shared experience and language of running. Marathons across the globe are celebrating this 2,500th anniversary and the human connectedness exemplified with each runner’s stride.

How to Use the Marathon 2010 Logo

A Global Collaboration

The City Council of the Municipality of Marathon, Greece has endorsed a logo in honor of the Battle of Marathon. We have approval to share this logo with organizations and marathons interested in acknowledging and honoring not only the heroic Greek warriors but also the origin of the marathon run.

Marathon2010.org will be the vehicle which will be used to share program ideas relating to the Battle of Marathon. Presently on the site there are a number of programs that are underway in Hopkinton, Massachusetts which has a sister-city relationship with Marathon, Greece since 2006 and hosts the start of the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Boston Marathon. This is just the beginning. Marathons around the world are entities unto themselves; however they share a common birth and unique historic ties. The purpose of this activity is to provide a forum through which creative ideas for celebrating the 2,500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon can be shared.

A Unique Opportunity

To request use of the Marathon 2010 logo, and begin planning your own program, email your request to info@marathon2010.org.

In return we will link to your marathon site and share your participation with officials in Marathon, Greece. To demonstrate to the global community how we celebrate this milestone event in human history, we ask that all participating marathons share with us examples of how you are using the image. Creating global exposure for a unified brand will only further enhance all of our individual marathons and surrounding programs.
